Apple Podcasts Gains Video Playback and In‑Show Search

Apple is adding video playback to the Apple Podcasts app on macOS and overhauling the tvOS version. Mac users will get Picture‑in‑Picture support, transcripts, timed links and chapter markers, mirroring the mobile experience. The redesign on Apple TV introduces a sidebar navigation and full‑bleed artwork, making video shows easier to browse. Users can also subscribe to new channels directly from the desktop interface.

Across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro and the web, Apple introduces an in‑show search that lets listeners type keywords while viewing the See All Episodes list, eliminating the need to scroll through dozens of entries. Search results highlight timestamps, letting listeners jump straight to relevant moments. The feature lands with the fall rollout of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, visionOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate and tvOS 27.

The upgrades bring the full podcast ecosystem to larger screens, encouraging creators to produce video‑first series and giving users a unified way to discover content. By aligning Podcasts with Apple’s broader push for cross‑device continuity, the company strengthens its position against competing audio platforms. The layout should boost watch time for video episodes.
