Apple Developing Seamless Pairing for Meta Devices

Apple is developing a new API that will allow third-party accessories, including Meta's Ray-Ban glasses and Quest headsets, to automatically pair across a user's Apple devices. This functionality mirrors the seamless experience currently reserved for AirPods and the Apple Watch.

The plan responds to a request filed by Meta in October 2025 under the EU's Digital Markets Act. Apple intends to let third-party apps access cryptographic materials, secured by a session key and one-time user consent, to enable cross-device pairing without extra prompts.

Apple expects to finish development by spring 2027, potentially shipping the feature in an iOS 27.x update. The feature utilizes AccessorySetupKit and Proximity Pairing, infrastructure built to comply with a March 2025 European Commission ruling. Currently, this functionality will only work in the EU. While Meta has requested a decoupling from the system to avoid abandoning Core Bluetooth globally, Apple has declined, though it is still considering support outside the EU.
