Samsung is reportedly developing an AI accelerator chip for PCs, codenamed Gaia. This new chip utilizes a 4nm process and features an optimized NPU architecture designed for efficient AI computing directly on personal computers. Prototypes have allegedly been provided to unspecified major clients.

Mass production of Gaia is slated to begin next year. The chip targets PC Edge AI computing and the broader physical AI market, including robotics, with a focus on delivering strong performance per watt. This move signals Samsung's ambition to compete in the growing AI hardware sector for consumer devices.

If launched, Gaia could provide a significant boost to AI capabilities on laptops and desktops, potentially leading to more sophisticated on-device AI features and applications. It also represents a direct challenge to existing players in the AI accelerator market, indicating heightened competition.
