The iPhone 18 Pro's bill of materials (BOM) is expected to rise by up to 38% compared to its predecessor, according to a new TrendForce report. This estimate applies to the 256GB storage version. The ongoing global memory chip shortage is a key factor, with memory components (RAM and storage) now taking up to 34% of the total BOM cost—a figure that could balloon to 42% by early 2027. A year ago, the same components accounted for just 10% of the iPhone 17 Pro's BOM.

Higher retail prices are now seen as “unavoidable.” Previous estimates suggest the baseline 256GB iPhone 18 Pro could cost as much as $1,399. However, TrendForce believes Apple may absorb some of the increased costs by reducing its profit margins. The report underscores the mounting pressure on smartphone makers from component price inflation.

While the exact launch pricing remains unconfirmed, the BOM increase points to a significant jump in retail price. Apple's ability to balance cost absorption with margin preservation will be crucial for the iPhone 18 Pro's market reception.
