Huawei is reportedly developing a smaller version of its MatePad Pro Max tablet, according to a rumor originating from China. The current flagship measures 13.2-inch and the new model would pack the same feature set into a more portable chassis.

The existing MatePad Pro Max runs on the Kirin T93 Pro chipset with up to 20GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It sports a 3000x2000 resolution display with a Paper Matte Display option, a 50MP rear camera, 12MP front camera, six speakers, and a battery supporting 66W wired charging plus 40W reverse wired charging.

The tipster also warned of a hefty price tag, suggesting the compact variant won't come cheap. No release date or exact dimensions have surfaced yet.

If accurate, this move would give professionals a high-end Android tablet option that doesn't require a backpack to carry. It also signals Huawei's continued investment in premium tablets despite U.S. sanctions limiting its chip supply, positioning the smaller Max as a direct rival to Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9 series and Apple's iPad Pro 11-inch.
