Apple says more than 100,000 apps are now available on the App Store that are optimized for the iPhone Duo, the company's foldable handset, which started shipping about two weeks ago. Thousands of optimized titles are being added each day, according to the company, and app support has been one of the early talking points since launch.

Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said developers have moved quickly to embrace the device. Recent examples include Microsoft's Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint and Word, along with Etsy, Goodnotes, Halide Mark III, NBA, NHL, Zoom, Amazon Prime Video, Fantastical, Flighty, Instagram, MLB, Netflix, Smart Gym, WhatsApp and YouTube. Optimized apps display a "Made for iPhone Duo" badge on their App Store product pages.

Apple has also been running workshops to speed up adoption. The company says it held more than 50 in-person sessions in 19 cities over the past month, with over 2,000 developers attending. Apps built with standard SwiftUI and UIKit components can adapt automatically to each display, and new APIs cover custom layouts and hinge poses.

Older builds still run on the device, but they don't always use the inner display as fully as optimized apps do. With millions of App Store titles overall, many apps are not yet optimized; Google Maps, for example, has only recently caught up. Apple says the pace of updates should keep climbing.
