Amazon announced three new Kindles today, which bring updated colors, thinner and lighter profiles and longer-lasting batteries. All versions now come with flush displays and optional aluminum backs. The basic Kindle (12th generation) features the same-sized 6-inch e-ink screen but with more rounded corners and a seamless flush display.
This allowed Amazon to expand the color options, with the borders around the display getting the same hues as the rest of the device. Amazon Kindle 12th gen Ube is the new hero color. It’s a deep purple shade, and it’s joined by graphite black as well as Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green.
The latter two options are a bit more special as they feature aluminum backs. All versions of the new 12th gen Kindle are 1 mm thinner than the previous generation, with the plastic models weighing 140 grams, while the aluminum-back versions are 20 grams heavier. Some of the other changes include 30% faster book opening compared to the previous 11th gen Kindle.
The power button is now repositioned on the right-hand side. Speaking of power, Amazon claims you can get up to 6 weeks on a single charge from the new Kindle. Kindle 12th gen starts at $150 in Ube and Graphite colors, which come with 16GB storage.
The Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green options with their aluminum backs get 32GB storage and retail for $190.
