Warhorse Studios, creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is developing an open-world Middle-earth RPG. The Czech studio confirmed the project on social media, noting it has also begun work on another historical sequel. Details remain scarce, but the team's expertise in immersive, challenging open-world design suggests a promising take on Tolkien's universe.

This follows years of rumors and leverages Warhorse's proven skill in narrative-driven RPGs set in meticulously crafted worlds. Their recent games use a first-person perspective with demanding mechanics, raising questions about whether the new title will adopt a similar approach or a more traditional third-person view like The Witcher 3. The move also capitalizes on Embracer Group's extensive Tolkien IP rights acquired in 2022.

Furthermore, Embracer plans to spin off its multi-studio Fellowship Entertainment division, which will focus heavily on Tolkien-related franchises alongside Tomb Raider and Dead Island. While Amazon recently canceled its own Lord of the Rings MMO, it retains a development deal with Embracer, indicating multiple new games set in Middle-earth may be in development simultaneously.
