Valve Steam Machine Pricing Revealed: $1,049 Base Model with Lottery Reservations

Valve has finally opened reservations for its Steam Machine with pricing starting at $1,049 for the 512GB model. The company is using a lottery system instead of first-come-first-served to combat scalpers, requiring Steam accounts in good standing and prior purchases before April 27. Signups run until June 25, with randomized selection determining reservation order.

All configurations share identical internals: a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, paired with AMD RDNA3 graphics featuring 28 compute units. The system includes 16GB DDR5 RAM and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM, packed into a compact six-inch cube. Storage options scale to 2TB, with both models supporting expandable microSD storage.

Notably, the Steam Controller isn't included in base pricing. Bundles add $79 to the total, while standalone controllers face delivery delays until 2027 as Valve prioritizes bundled shipments. The company aims to make purchasing fairer by removing the speed advantage that typically rewards bots and fast internet connections.

Initial shipping covers North America, UK/EU, and Australia, with Komodo handling Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong sales. South Korea won't receive shipments. Meanwhile, Valve's Steam Frame remains slated for a summer release with no specific timeline yet announced.
