Uber has launched its first robotaxi service in London through a partnership with British autonomous vehicle company Wayve. Customers requesting Uber X, Uber Comfort, or Uber Electric rides may be matched with a Ford Mustang Mach-E equipped with Wayve's self-driving technology. Riders receive notifications before autonomous vehicles arrive, with the option to request a traditional car instead.

This launch follows Uber receiving its license to operate AVs in London last month, a mandate requiring a human supervisor to be present at all times. Uber states pricing will match traditional rates, though tipping prompts are disabled; passengers may still tip manually via Trip History. The company already operates robotaxi fleets in Dallas, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Austin, with expansion plans for Los Angeles and the Bay Area.

Uber and Wayve also announced plans to bring Nissan autonomous vehicles to Tokyo. This marks Uber's expansion into the London market after navigating significant regulatory hurdles to deploy autonomous vehicles on public roads.
