President Donald Trump has created a new task force called the "Super Intelligence Force" to maintain US leadership in artificial intelligence. He tapped Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, to lead the group. Trump wrote on Truth Social that the force will coordinate federal efforts and work with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and "super intelligence companies."

As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the force's first task is to create a report on AI risks and opportunities within 120 days. Along with Clayton, Trump appointed Andrew Ferguson (FTC chair), Emil Michael (DoD under secretary), and Scott Kupor (OPM director). The group will report to Trump and chief of staff Susie Wiles.

The announcement comes weeks after Trump said he would create a new "AI Force" and polled followers about rebranding the term artificial intelligence. The task force will eventually share recommendations for federal AI responsibilities amid calls from company CEOs for a development slowdown.
