Supermassive Games, the developer of Until Dawn and Directive 8020, has announced it will lay off up to 75 employees to ensure the company remains sustainable. The UK-based studio shared the decision in a statement on X, calling it a necessary step and pledging support for all impacted workers.

This marks the third round of layoffs in two and a half years. Supermassive cut around 90 jobs in February 2024 and approximately 35 in July 2025. As of the end of 2025, the studio had 172 employees. Former CEO Robert Henrysson stepped down in June, weeks after the release of Directive 8020.

A sequel to Until Dawn was unveiled in June, but Supermassive is not involved. Sony’s studio Firesprite is developing Until Dawn 2, and Supermassive did not handle the 2024 remake of the original game.
