A livestream on Saturday gave fans their first look at Subnautica 2, capped by a short gameplay trailer that showcases the opening dive. Unknown Worlds used the stream to demonstrate the new oceanic biomes and the upgraded survival mechanics that differentiate the sequel from its predecessor. Early Access launches on May 14 across Steam, Xbox and Epic, bringing the sequel to a larger audience weeks after the livestream buzz.

Set on a fresh alien planet, the game drops players from the colony ship CICADA into a hostile environment after an AI‑driven mishap. Survivors must rebuild humanity while contending with scarce resources and unknown threats. The title’s development stumbled last summer when publisher Krafton dismissed studio heads, leading to lawsuits that were later reversed. The lawsuit saga briefly stalled development progress.

Unknown Worlds plans to keep Subnautica 2 in Early Access for roughly two to three years, allowing iterative updates based on community feedback. That timeline gives players a prolonged testing phase but also signals a lengthy wait for the full experience. With the franchise’s strong fanbase, the early entry could boost Steam and console sales immediately.
