Sonos has launched the Play, its first new product since the 2024 app debacle, positioning it as the middle option between the $179 Roam 2 and $499 Move 2. The $299 speaker shares many features with the Era 100, including dual tweeters and a midwoofer, but adds passive radiators for enhanced bass response. At 7.6 inches tall and under 3 pounds, it's more portable than the Move 2 yet offers superior sound to the Roam 2.

The Play features an IP67 rating, making it dustproof and submersible up to one meter for 30 minutes, matching the Roam 2's durability. It includes a removable grab handle, wireless charging dock, and USB-C port that supports line-in, Ethernet, and phone charging with an adapter. The speaker works with the Sonos app, AirPlay 2, and Spotify Connect, and supports both Sonos Voice Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Sonos also introduced the Era 100 SL, a $189 version of the Era 100 without microphones, creating a more affordable entry point to the ecosystem. Both the Play and Era 100 SL are available for pre-order now, shipping March 31. The Play's ability to group with other Sonos speakers via Bluetooth for the first time adds versatility for covering larger outdoor spaces.
