Rockstar Workers Form First Union

Rockstar Games employees have formed the Rockstar Game Workers Union, the first labor union at the Grand Theft Auto developer. The union represents workers across all UK offices including Edinburgh, London, Leeds, Lincoln and Dundee. Operating as a subsidiary of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain, members focus on pay transparency, flexible working, and ending the industry's notorious crunch culture.

The union formation comes after 31 workers were fired in October 2026, whom Rockstar claimed were dismissed for gross misconduct involving confidential information sharing. The IWGB called this "the most blatant and ruthless act of union busting in the history of the games industry" and has filed a legal claim against the developer. The fired workers were denied interim pay by a UK employment tribunal earlier this year.

With Grand Theft Auto VI launching in November, the union's public announcement serves to raise money for their ongoing legal defense. The timing puts additional pressure on Rockstar and its owner 2K as they prepare for one of gaming's most anticipated releases. The workers' demands for better conditions now intersect with heightened public scrutiny during this critical business period.
