OpenAI has released chat logsmoon to rebut Apple’s trade‑secret lawsuit. It calls the suit “careless, aggressive” and insists Apple is wrong for alleging that it hired ex‑Apple staff to steal confidential data. The company’s response also denies any wrongdoing.

Apple sued OpenAI and two former employees, Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan, in July. Apple claimed Liu accessed “dozens of confidential hardware‑related files” after leaving, while Tan allegedly directed current Apple employees to bring “actual parts” for OpenAI interviews.

In its lengthy reply, OpenAI published communications showing that Apple’s own employees reached out to Liu to locate certain information. The tech firm says Apple tried to blame “residual access” but never disclosed that it is a common issue caused by failing to manage system access when people leave. Some former staff still have access without realizing it.

Apple also accused Tan of facilitating the transfer of proprietary information, but OpenAI states Tan has always made clear that no confidential data from other firms will be used. The company disputes Apple’s claim that it contacted OpenAI in February and received no reply, citing a misdirected email between two different Asian surnames.
