Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Moved Up

Capcom has shifted the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, moving the historical fantasy action title up by three weeks. The game will now launch on September 4, a strategic decision to avoid direct competition with the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, which is slated for a November 19 release. This adjustment aims to give the new Onimusha entry more breathing room in a crowded release window.

The new September 4 date applies to all platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Switch 2. This marks the first new mainline Onimusha game since 2006's Dawn of Dreams, though a remaster of 2002's Samurai's Destiny arrived last year. The original September 25 date would have placed it in the same week as other major releases like Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall.

By launching earlier, Onimusha: Way of the Sword sidesteps a dense release schedule that includes Marvel's Wolverine on September 15. This move reflects a broader industry trend of publishers attempting to navigate around major blockbuster releases, particularly the impending arrival of GTA VI. A demo for the game is available now, though progress does not carry over to the full release.
