Netflix has canceled Terminator Zero after just one season, showrunner Mattson Tomlin confirmed on social media this weekend. Despite strong critical reception, the anime series failed to attract enough viewers to justify a second season. Tomlin expressed disappointment but noted he's satisfied with how the first season feels complete on its own.

Released in August 2024, Terminator Zero explored the events surrounding Judgment Day on August 29, 1997, jumping forward to 2022 in a war between humans and machines. Tomlin had planned future seasons to expand on the "Future War" storyline, but Netflix decided against renewal. The showrunner praised the marketing team and hundreds of crew members who worked on the ambitious project.

Tomlin offered insight into the cancellation, explaining that anime audiences tend to be younger while Terminator fans skew older. The series attempted to bridge this gap, but viewership didn't meet Netflix's threshold for continuation. Despite the cancellation, Tomlin remains grateful to those who watched and supported the unique take on the Terminator franchise.
