Minimalist phone maker Light is introducing the Light Flip, a retro-inspired device that merges the functionality of a flip phone with the distraction-free ethos of its previous models. Unlike modern smartphones, the Light Flip eschews "endless scroll" apps, focusing on essential tools presented in a simple, list-based interface similar to the Light Phone III.

This new device features a 12-button keypad and a directional button for navigation, foregoing a touchscreen. It includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C port, a 50-megapixel camera (outputting 12MP images), and a removable battery. Notably, there's no external screen, only a notification light when closed. The Light Flip will be available in six colors, contrasting with the Light Phone III's single black option.

Light is also launching a bundled phone plan: $39 a month for two years includes the Light Flip and a service plan with unlimited voice and text, plus 1GB of data. An unlimited plan is available for $69/month. The company developed the flip phone in response to requests for a less smartphone-like device, particularly from younger users and those seeking distraction-free options. The Light Flip is expected to ship in April 2027.
