Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey premiering July 17 marks cinema history as the first feature film entirely shot in IMAX's 70mm format. Nolan solved camera noise issues with special acoustic enclosures, enabling unprecedented image quality equivalent to 16K-18K digitally.

30 IMAX 70mm theaters in the US and 9 in Canada will screen the film, with locations from Tempe, AZ to Toronto, ON. Alternative viewing options include IMAX with Laser 4K at 1.43 to 1 aspect ratio, 70mm film projection at 2.2 to 1 ratio, and standard digital IMAX.

Nolan created visual effects in-camera with minimal CGI and used chemical printing directly from the negative. He maintains IMAX 15/70 "is the highest quality imaging format ever devised" with unmatched image quality. Tickets are selling quickly though most theaters have added showtimes.
