Google is rolling out two updates to improve automatic activity tracking on its wearables and bring more health features to its latest Fitbit devices. The company announced that Health Guardian, introduced over the summer for the Pixel Watch, will reach the Fitbit Air for Google Health Premium subscribers later this month. It will also be available on the new Fitbit Edge under the Premium subscription.

With Health Guardian, Fitbit Air and Fitbit Edge users will receive a monthly summary in the Health app of their blood pressure and insulin resistance trends. The in-app Health Coach will offer lifestyle and wellness recommendations based on these readings, along with insights to help users talk to their doctor about any concerns. Google describes the feature as an early indication that something needs attention, "kind of like a check engine light for overall well-being."

Google is also upgrading automatic activity tracking for the Fitbit Air, Fitbit Edge and Pixel Watches 3, 4 and 5. The update should close the gap in detecting fast-moving activities like tennis and HIIT. It nearly doubles accuracy and expands recognized workouts from 10 to over 100. Beyond heart rate, the devices will factor in movement, routines, manual edits and location. In tests, Google says the improvements "cut missed workouts by more than half."

A new Metal Mesh band for the Fitbit Air is also on the way. The flexible stainless steel design comes in Champagne Gold or Polished Silver for $70, or as a $150 bundle with an Obsidian Fitbit Air at Target and the Google Store. Pre-orders open next week, and the band arrives October 27.
