Epic Games unveiled its AI‑first strategy during The State of Unreal keynote, revealing an experimental Model Context Protocol plugin that allows developers to integrate Claude and Gemini into Unreal Engine. The move positions AI as a core productivity lever for Unreal Engine 6.

The company introduced Unreal Engine 5.8 today, adding MCP server support that lets teams link any AI agent with the engine’s blueprints, assets, and levels. In a live demo, Claude Code fetched a living‑room set from an asset library and placed it in Unreal, while also adjusting lighting to match real‑world references.

Epic’s head of development, Marcus Wassmer, argues that AI can cut tedious tasks, freeing creators for creative exploration. The narrative aligns with Tim Sweeney’s 2026 report that 52 percent of developers view AI negatively, a sharp rise from earlier years.

Epic plans UE6 early access for late 2027, with a full release to follow. The company also announced over 30 new Fortnite collaborations, signaling a broad push for AI‑powered content across its ecosystem.
