Crowdsourced map lets residents track AI data centers

Environmental activist Erin Brockovich has launched a crowdsourced website that maps AI data centers nationwide. The portal lets residents flag operational facilities and proposed projects, displaying each report as a dot on a map. The initiative also includes a FAQ section that educates users on typical AI‑center resource demands. The site has collected 2,716 entries, with Texas accounting for the largest share of submissions.

Texas reports dominate because the state hosts the sprawling MSB Global development near Sulphur Springs. The company plans a 3 Gigawatts AI campus spread over 30 buildings on roughly 1,600 acres, making it one of the continent’s biggest projects. Residents have filed lawsuits and voiced concerns about water depletion, electricity demand, health impacts, and threaten local ecosystems, raising long‑term sustainability questions.

The map reveals that water usage tops community worries, with large facilities consuming up to 5 million gallons daily—enough for a town of 10,000‑50,000 people. Electricity spikes force utilities to upgrade grids, raising rates for ordinary consumers. Brockovich’s effort revives her legacy of confronting corporate environmental harm, giving everyday citizens a tool to hold AI operators accountable.
