Ayaneo has unveiled the Pocket S Mini, a new handheld designed for retro gaming enthusiasts. The device stands out with its 4:3 aspect ratio display, ideal for emulating classic console games without those annoying black bars. The market is increasingly competitive, with several similar devices already available. The Pocket S Mini aims to offer a premium experience with high-end features.

The Pocket S Mini boasts a 4.2-inch LCD screen with a 1,280 x 960 resolution, a full metal frame, and a glass front panel. It's powered by a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chip and a 6,000mAh battery. Hall effect joysticks and triggers are included for precise control. Unlike many of Ayaneo's other products, the Pocket S Mini is launching without a crowdfunding campaign.

Available now on Ayaneo's website, the Pocket S Mini has an early bird price starting at $319. This price is for the Obsidian Black or Ice Soul White models, which come with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage. The Retro Power colorway with higher specs is also available. Retail pricing will eventually increase.

The handheld gaming market is seeing a surge in popularity, driven by nostalgia and the desire for portable gaming experiences. Devices like the Pocket S Mini cater to this trend by offering a premium build and features tailored for retro gaming. Expect to see more competition in this space, with companies like Anbernic and Retroid releasing similar products.
