Project Hail Mary has become Amazon MGM's highest-grossing film ever, surpassing $300 million globally. The space odyssey starring Ryan Gosling earned another $54.1 million from 86 markets this weekend, bringing its total to $300.8 million. This beats the previous record held by 2023's Creed III, which grossed $276 million worldwide.

Amazon acquired MGM for $8.5 billion in 2022, making this milestone particularly significant for the tech giant's entertainment ambitions. The film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is based on Andy Weir's novel and carries a $200 million production budget. It performed especially well in China ($7.7 million), the United Kingdom ($6.3 million), and Australia ($3.8 million) this weekend.

While Project Hail Mary celebrates its box office success, other films had mixed results. Pixar's Hoppers added $37 million globally, bringing its total to $297.6 million and on track to cross $300 million next week. Meanwhile, Warner Bros.' horror film They Will Kill You flopped with just $9 million in its debut, despite a $20 million budget and starring Zazie Beetz.
