The most celebrated real‑time strategy title is finally arriving on Apple computers. Feral Interactive has confirmed that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will launch for macOS via Steam on May 28, with a later App Store release. The port is a joint effort with World's Edge, the studio that has stewarded the franchise for Microsoft since 2019.

Players will receive the original Age of Kings campaign, the revered The Conquerors expansion, and three newer DLC packs—Lords of the West, Dynasties of India, and Dawn of the Dukes—alongside revamped graphics, music, and modern quality‑of‑life tweaks. Multiplayer will feature most of the same civilizations, and every PC‑exclusive expansion, including The Last Chieftains, can be bought separately.

Although it appeared on Mac in 2001, this is the first time the Definitive Edition has reached the platform since its 2019 release. With 20,000 Steam players, the community stays active, letting Mac users find matches. The release marks the first Microsoft title on Mac since Psychonauts 2 in 2021, signalling a gradual return of classic titles to Apple hardware again.
