The 2017 Apple TV 4K has been added to Apple's vintage list as of October 9, 2026, making it harder to get repair parts. After nearly a decade of use, the author is eager for a new model featuring improved hardware and features. The current device's Siri Remote with its problematic glass touch surface has been a persistent frustration.
The original Apple TV 4K was notable for being the first to support 4K video with Dolby Vision and HDR10, powered by an A10X Fusion chip. With rumors of a 4th-gen model imminent, key upgrades include a redesigned Siri Remote with physical buttons and better orientation awareness, plus enhanced HDMI ARC/eARC support for improved audio integration with gaming consoles like Xbox Series X and PS5. The author is ready to upgrade after years of waiting for meaningful improvements.
