Meta Demands AirPods‑Like Pairing for Glasses

Meta has pressed Apple to allow its devices to pair like AirPods, citing EU interoperability requests. The company’s formal request, filed in May 2025, seeks automatic pairing of its Ray‑Ban Meta glasses and pans out to its Meta Quest headsets when an iPhone or iPad is paired.

Apple has responded by saying it is reviewing the request and will release an API that could enable this feature by spring 2027. Meta argues that relying on Apple’s Accessory Setup Kit (ASK) would undermine its global pairing logic and user experience.

The EU, which mandated in 2024 that Apple share its technology with rivals, has yet to enforce a specific requirement on Apple to re‑engineer the system. Meta insists the request is reasonable and aimed at user convenience.

Inзура, Meta’s push highlights the tension between EU regulatory demands and Apple’s engineering priorities, with Meta demanding free access to Apple’s pairing tech while Apple emphasizes limited, EU‑only availability.
