Bluesound Adds Native Apple Music Streaming

Premium audio company Bluesound has rolled out an update to BluOS, its device control software, adding native support for Apple Music. The update brings the streaming service to Bluesound's wireless speakers, stereo components, and soundbars, bringing Apple Music to yet another in-home speaker platform.

The update also extends to other BluOS-compatible hardware from NAD Electronics, PSB Speakers, DALI Loudspeakers, Cyrus, and Monitor Audio. Owners can use BluOS multi-room features to stream Apple Music to multiple devices in a room or throughout a home. Playback runs directly on the Bluesound Player, so a smartphone or tablet is no longer needed to stream the music. Previously, listeners had to connect an iPhone or iPad via AirPlay 2, which remains an option for other audio sources.

Setup is simple: users connect Apple Music once through the BluOS Controller app and can then play it on all compatible devices. An active Apple Music subscription is required, but the update itself is free for owners. Notably, the company has not said whether Lossless Audio is supported, and AppleInsider has asked Bluesound for clarification.

Bluesound is a premium, audiophile-focused brand with prices to match. Its lineup ranges from the $379 Pulse Flex wireless speaker to the $1,299 Node Icon, a streamer with a dual-mono DAC and THX AAA headphone amplifier. The Pulse 2i, priced at $999, and the Node Nano, at $429, round out the range for buyers with existing or varied audio setups.
