Aqara's Matter Camera Arrives: Apple Users See Little Benefit

Aqara has launched the G350 indoor camera, the first device certified for Matter 1.5 with camera support. The 4K dual-lens camera automatically switches between lenses for 1X, 3X, or 9X hybrid zoom and can rotate 360 degrees to track motion. It also functions as a Thread router, Zigbee hub, and Matter hub.

Despite being Matter-certified, Apple Home users gain minimal advantage since Apple hasn't implemented Matter camera support yet. Only Samsung SmartThings currently supports Matter 1.5 cameras. The camera works with Apple HomeKit Secure Video out of the box, making Matter support largely redundant for most Apple users today.

The G350 costs $139 on Amazon and includes local storage via microSD card, with footage accessible through Aqara's cloud, Apple HomeKit Secure Video, or other services. Matter's real benefits for cameras—higher resolution video above 1080p, advanced zoom options, and pan-tilt controls—will only materialize when Apple adds support.
