Apple iPhone Ultra Tease Lost in Translation

Apple fans are debating whether a Chinese event tagline hints at the rumored iPhone Ultra foldable. When visiting the China Mainland Apple homepage and using Chrome's translation, the text reads "A new chapter unfolds, let's shine!" Some interpret "unfolds" as a cheeky nod to a folding device expected in about two weeks. However, native speakers and other translation tools — including Safari, which renders it as "Bright new chapter, come to dazzling" — suggest Google Translate's "unfold" is a machine error.

The English tagline remains "Surprise and shine." Apple has a history of punny event invites: "Scary Fast" (October 2023, M3 chips), "Far Out" (September 2022, Apple Watch Ultra and satellite SOS), and "Hi, Speed" (2020, 5G iPhone). While Apple often embeds double meanings, this appears to be a translation artifact rather than intentional wordplay. Chinese wordplay rarely carries directly into English, and "Surprise and Shine" loses its "rise and shine" pun when translated.

The debate highlights how machine translation can fuel speculation, but the consensus leans toward a linguistic coincidence, not a product tease.
