Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra might finally ditch its long-standing reliance on 8-bit display technology. According to recent reports, the new phone will feature a true 10-bit panel. This means a substantial leap from 16.7 million colors to over 1 billion, promising smoother gradients and more realistic visuals for users. The display is said to be built on the new M14 OLED material.

For years, Samsung has used software tricks to simulate a wider color range on its Ultra phones. While competitors like OPPO and OnePlus adopted native 10-bit displays, Samsung lagged. The shift to a true 10-bit panel should eliminate color banding, offering a more refined viewing experience. This enhancement is particularly noticeable in photos and videos.

In addition to the display upgrade, the S26 Ultra is rumored to feature a flatter screen design, which should enhance usability for S Pen users.
