Fairphone posted a 116% year‑over‑year shipment jump in Q1 2026, its third straight quarter of growth despite a global market that fell 6% this period. The Amsterdam‑based maker credits a repairable, long‑lasting design—exemplified by the modular Fairphone 5 with a replaceable 4,400 mAh battery—that resonates with consumers fed up with disposable premium phones.

European demand carried the bulk of the upside, with the United Kingdom posting a 241% rise in phone shipments, the Netherlands 200%, and France 121%. Accessories and audio products also climbed, especially in Germany where phones grew 60% and accessories 61%. The company is now within striking distance of one million units sold and €73.3 million in revenue.

Chief Commercial Officer Rutger Sneep says the brand’s transparency, repairability and responsible sourcing let it thrive while rivals wrestle with DRAM shortages and shrinking margins. Fairphone’s model proves a niche focused on sustainability can capture market share, challenging the notion that premium specs alone drive sales.

As larger brands grapple with component shortages and shrinking profit margins, Fairphone’s growth signals that sustainability can translate into commercial success, nudging the industry toward more repair‑friendly designs. Investors are taking note, and regulators in the EU are watching the model as a benchmark for future right‑to‑repair legislation.
