Google revealed major Android security and privacy upgrades at the Android Show. Android 17 will introduce a temporary precise location button, enhanced location transparency showing which apps track users, and improved Contact Picker for granular permissions. These features aim to give users more control over their personal data while maintaining functionality.

The company is rolling out stronger defenses against banking scams through call spoofing protection that automatically ends suspicious calls. For stolen devices, the "Mark as Lost" feature will add biometric authentication as an additional security layer, preventing thieves from disabling location tracking. These protections will first launch with select banks including Revolut, Itaú, and Nubank.

Live Threat Detection is receiving upgrades to monitor suspicious behaviors like SMS forwarding and accessibility overlays. Advanced Protection gains USB Protection and Intrusion Logging capabilities, while Chrome's Safe Browsing will now analyze APK files for malware before download. The Find Hub will also receive updates to help users locate misplaced devices.
