Reddit plans changes to Old Reddit to combat AI data scraping. The legacy desktop experience, built 21 years ago and accessible at old.reddit.com, will require users to be logged in. The company says this protects the platform, business, and users from abusive scraping and spamming.

Reddit will migrate critical bots and moderator workflows to its modern stack. CEO Steve Huffman previously promised Old Reddit would continue as long as people used it, but the extent of its survival remains unclear. The changes follow account verification procedures introduced earlier to fight AI scraping.

Reddit is also expanding Rules Hub, a suite of AI moderation tools for spam, abuse, and rule breaking. Moderators can choose which rules to automatically enforce, set actions (queue, filter, remove), preview before enabling, and review logs. This approach aims to be more effective than older keyword-matching auto-moderation.
