Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro unveiling next month might also bring the launch of new AirPods with cameras. Here’s why the addition of cameras could prove especially compelling. Cameras could help AirPods expand health features to vision, using Voice Over and visual intelligence.

AirPods with cameras have been rumored since 2024. And for the longest time, I struggled to understand what use cases could be compelling enough to justify adding cameras. But earlier this year, Apple unveiled a new AI-powered Voice Over feature. And suddenly, the idea of cameras on AirPods made a lot more sense. Per Mark Gurman’s reporting, Apple plans to launch AirPods with cameras this fall with visual intelligence features.

Apple has aggressively started turning AirPods into health devices. It launched hearing health features in 2024, including Hearing Aid, and added heart rate sensing in 2025 to Air Pods Pro 3. Now, AirPods assisting in the area of vision health could be next. Tim Cook has long said that health will be Apple’s biggest area of contribution to the world. As he steps down from the CEO role, launching a major new health feature in AirPods could be a great send-off.
