iOS 27 Restores Apple TV Remote Home Screen Access

Apple is bringing back a popular feature with iOS 27, allowing users to place the virtual Apple TV remote directly on their Home screen. This eliminates the need for workarounds that iPhone and iPad owners have used since 2020 to control their Apple TV devices from their device's home screen.

Previously, the remote function existed as both a built-in Control Center tile and an App Store app before Apple consolidated these approaches. Users had to create Shortcuts to access the remote from Home screen, making the feature less discoverable for those who frequently use their iOS devices as remotes.

The restored functionality makes the remote more accessible and convenient. iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 are currently in developer beta, with public beta versions expected in July ahead of the official fall release when this feature will become available to all users.
