iOS 27 Adds Mac-Style Recovery Mode for iPhone and iPad

Apple's iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 introduce a new device recovery mode that lets iPhones and iPads boot into a lightweight interface without loading the full operating system. The feature enables users to restore software, run diagnostics, erase the device, and perform automated fixes using Recovery Assistant directly on the device.

To access recovery mode, users shut down their device and hold the side button during startup until a progress bar appears. The interface mirrors Apple Silicon Macs' recovery process and displays battery percentage and automatically connects to known Wi-Fi networks. Available options include Software Update, Diagnostics Mode, and Erase All Content and Settings.

This update eliminates the need for computer-based recovery in many scenarios, such as failed software updates or boot loops caused by problematic iOS versions. Users can now reinstall stable OS versions independently, bypassing DFU mode and iTunes dependencies.

The new recovery system streamlines troubleshooting for everyday users while maintaining Apple's emphasis on device security and data protection protocols.
