iOS 26.6 is now available for iPhone users, released on July 27 after beta testing began May 26. The update includes five beta versions and a Release Candidate before public launch. You can install via Settings > General > Software Update.

Much of Apple's focus has shifted to iOS 27, so iOS 26.6 isn't a major feature update. However, it optimizes the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27's flagship Siri AI feature, which relies on reindexing your iPhone. This optimization should make the indexing process faster when iOS 27 arrives this fall. Apple's release notes confirm: "This update includes bug fixes, security updates, and optimizes the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27."

Beyond iOS 27 preparation, iOS 26.6 adds a new alert when you block too many contacts. Code also reveals work on an anti-snatching iPhone feature, though it won't ship in this update.

Critically, iOS 26.6 fixes more than 75 security vulnerabilities impacting iPhones, plus 150+ for Mac. For this reason alone, you should update immediately.
