iOS 26.5 delivered significant updates to Apple's core apps. Messages gained end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging in beta, providing green bubble friends with iMessage-like features. The encryption ensures messages can't be read during transit between devices, though the feature remains in beta and isn't available on all carriers or devices yet.

Apple Maps introduced 'Suggested Places' in iOS 26.5, recommending two locations when users tap into the search field. These suggestions combine trending nearby spots with previous searches, acting as a discovery aid without cluttering the interface. Apple plans to eventually include promoted locations in one of these slots, potentially opening a new ad revenue stream.

The App Store added a flexible subscription option in iOS 26.5: an annual plan split into 12 monthly payments. This "monthly with 12-month commitment" model offers annual discounts without requiring a large upfront charge. Currently available globally except the US and Singapore, it provides developers with another subscription option to entice users.
