Instagram's AI: How to Protect Your Face

Meta has integrated its new AI image model, Muse Image, into Instagram, allowing users to generate visuals using text prompts. However, a significant privacy concern has emerged: by default, public profile photos and posts can be used by anyone as prompts for generative AI remixes.

This means Meta AI can create images using your likeness if your account is public. Users must manually disable this feature by navigating to Settings > Sharing and Reuse and toggling off options for both 'Posts' and 'Reels' under the 'Allow people to create with and reuse your content' section. These settings are enabled by default, requiring users to opt-out.

The new AI tools extend to Instagram Stories with over 30 effects and image generation within WhatsApp direct chats via Meta AI. This privacy oversight by Meta underscores a growing tension between AI feature adoption and user data protection, forcing consumers to actively manage their digital privacy settings.
