Gemini powers a smarter Siri: what to expect

Apple confirmed in January that Google's Gemini model will underlie the next generation of Siri, sidestepping delays tied to Apple‑built AI. A beta of Gemini Personal Intelligence already shows how the assistant could draw from both ecosystems while keeping Apple’s privacy safeguards intact.

Gemini Personal Intelligence can fetch specifics from Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Photos, YouTube, Search, Maps and more, while the Apple variant will tap Mail, Calendar, Photos and Notes. A recent Google event teased broader task automation, screen‑aware prompts and form autofill—for instance, long‑pressing the power button on a notes list could summon a ready‑to‑order grocery cart.

Upgrades to Gboard Rambler will let voice input strip filler words, and Android will debut generative UI such as custom home‑screen widgets and Wear OS Tiles populated from web and app data. Should Apple adopt similar features, Siri will become a far more conversational, proactive assistant, delivering richer context without waiting for home‑grown models.
