Firefox Smart Window Adds AI Search & Tab Groups

Mozilla today announced new features for Firefox's AI-powered Smart Window, which remains in beta. Originally described as a separate, optional window where users can interact with an AI assistant while browsing, Smart Window now includes automatic tab grouping, duplicate tab detection, and a partnership with Exa for AI-powered web search.

The update aims to help users finish what they start online. Smart Window will suggest groups for related tabs, useful when researching topics or planning events. It also detects and closes duplicate tabs with one click. Through the Exa partnership, Smart Window can retrieve current web information and display sources without redirecting to a search results page.

Users can input natural-language prompts like "running shows I looked at last week" and receive visual previews of browsing history. Future updates will surface recent browsing journeys and help fill out online forms using relevant information. Smart Window remains available in English as a beta for Firefox users in the U.S. and Canada.

Mozilla emphasizes user control over data access, including which tabs are shared with the feature.
