IDC reports that Apple and Huawei were the only smartphone makers to see shipment growth in China during the second quarter of 2026. Apple experienced a significant 24.4% year-over-year increase in shipments, propelling it to second place with 18.1% market share. Huawei maintained its lead with 22.6%.

This growth occurred as the overall Chinese smartphone market declined by 4.3%, with other major manufacturers facing significant drops, some as high as 60.8%. Factors contributing to the decline include rising component costs, reduced government subsidies, and weaker consumer demand.

IDC attributes Apple and Huawei's success to stable pricing, targeted promotions, and strong brand loyalty. Apple's early price increase signaling also encouraged some consumers to purchase the iPhone 17 series sooner. Looking ahead, IDC anticipates cost pressures to intensify in the latter half of 2026, potentially widening the year-over-year decline.
