Apple M3 Ultra Mac Studio Drops 256GB RAM - Only 96GB Config Left

Apple has removed the 256GB RAM configuration option from the M3 Ultra Mac Studio, leaving customers with only a single 96GB memory choice. This follows the removal of the 512GB RAM option back in March, eliminating all upgrade possibilities for Apple's most powerful desktop computer. The M3 Ultra Mac Studio previously supported up to 512GB of unified memory when it launched.

The timing coincides with Apple's announcement last week that both the Mac mini and Mac Studio will remain supply constrained for several months. The company also dropped the base storage Mac mini model, suggesting broader supply chain challenges affecting multiple product lines. Getting any M3 Ultra Mac Studio configuration has become increasingly difficult as inventory depletes.

The situation creates an unusual dynamic where Apple's laptop lineup now offers more memory than its professional desktop. The newer M5 Max MacBook Pro can be configured with up to 128GB of memory, making it the only current Mac that supports higher memory capacities than the M3 Ultra Mac Studio. Professionals seeking maximum RAM have limited options until Apple resolves its supply issues.
