Apple has unveiled two new Apple Silicon chips: the M6 and M5 Ultra. The M6 chip debuts in a new Mac mini and marks Apple's first 2nm processor. It features a 12-core CPU with two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores — the first Apple chip with all three core types. Apple claims the world's fastest single-threaded performance and up to 1.2x faster multithreaded performance versus M5. The M6 GPU has 12 cores with a Neural Accelerator in each, delivering a 30% increase in peak AI compute. It supports up to 32GB unified memory at 170GB/s bandwidth and processes FP8 natively in hardware.

At the high end, the M5 Ultra launches in a refreshed Mac Studio as Apple's "most powerful chip ever." It uses next-generation Ultra Fusion to connect two dual-die M5 Max chips, creating a quad-die architecture with over 4.4TB/s inter-die bandwidth. The M5 Ultra offers up to a 36-core CPU (12 super, 24 performance) and up to 80 GPU cores. Apple claims up to 1.3x faster multithreaded CPU performance and 4.5x peak GPU AI compute versus M3 Ultra. It supports up to 512GB unified memory at 1.2TB/s bandwidth. Both chips are available today in their respective Macs.
