Developers Riley Testut and Shane Gill of AltStore have unveiled the CSAM Store Checker app. This new tool is designed to monitor app marketplaces for the presence of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The app aims to identify platforms that fail to adhere to Apple’s App Store guidelines, particularly concerning the distribution of illicit content.

Testut and Gill highlighted issues with apps on X and Grok. The CSAM Store Checker allows users to verify whether specific marketplaces host apps with accessible CSAM. The developers plan to donate their Patreon earnings to Protect All Children from Trafficking (PACT), an organization combating child exploitation. They want to make it clear which apps are problematic.

This move comes amid growing concerns about the proliferation of CSAM online. Apple has faced criticism for its moderation policies, and third-party tools like the CSAM Store Checker offer an alternative approach. The app provides reference articles to clarify which marketplaces allow problematic apps.

PACT's CSAM Prevention Program offers resources for parents and guardians. In 2024, they helped pass the REPORT Act to strengthen legal obligations for tech companies. This development reflects a commitment to tackling online child exploitation, showcasing the importance of community-driven efforts in the digital space.
