Alphabet's Google has secured separate power agreements with AES Corp and Xcel Energy to fuel its expanding data center operations across the United States. The deals come as Big Tech races to find reliable, clean energy sources for AI-driven infrastructure growth.

Xcel Energy will power Google's new data center in Pine Island, Minnesota, while adding 1,900 megawatts of clean energy to the grid. The project includes 1,400 MW of wind capacity, 200 MW of solar power, and 300 MW of long-duration energy storage. Google will invest $50 million in Xcel's Minnesota battery storage network, with the company covering all costs to prevent rate increases for existing customers.

AES signed a 20-year agreement to power a new data center in Wilbarger County, Texas, building shared electricity infrastructure for the co-located facility. These deals follow Google's previous agreement with NextEra Energy for 3.5 GW of electricity generation. The tech giant joins Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services in securing power supply deals with major U.S. utilities including Southern Co and AEP as data center demand surges.
