Capgemini CEO Rejects Full EU Tech Independence

Capgemini CEO Aiman Ezzat has rejected calls for complete technological sovereignty in Europe, arguing that true autonomy is impossible in today's interconnected digital ecosystem. Speaking after earnings, Ezzat said no entity controls the entire value chain needed for modern tech services.

Ezzat, who chairs the digital working group at the European Round Table for Industry, said he's discussed the issue with European Commission officials in Brussels and at Davos. The French IT services giant is positioning itself as a bridge between Brussels' sovereignty ambitions and the reality of U.S.-dominated cloud infrastructure.

Rather than pursue full autonomy, Ezzat advocates for "the right sovereignty solution based on the use case, the client environment, the government." Capgemini has partnered with AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft to deliver what it calls "sovereign" AI solutions, running on American infrastructure but provided by a European-based company. The company is also navigating reputational challenges after announcing it would sell its U.S. subsidiary Capgemini Government Solutions following backlash over a $4.8 million contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
