Wichita Peruvian Kitchen Closes Amid Financial Strain

Lima Nation Peruvian Kitchen in Wichita shuttered suddenly in early January after just a year of operation. Owners Karo and Carlos Barreda cited overwhelming operating costs and a challenging business model as key reasons behind the closure.

The restaurant accumulated over $314,000 in liabilities against just $23,000 in assets, leading to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing. Despite strong local support and high diner ratings, the Barredas said sustaining the concept proved unsustainable.

Carlos Barreda plans to pivot to catering and private events, aiming to keep sharing Peruvian cuisine in a more flexible format. The couple emphasized their gratitude toward the Wichita community and intend to remain connected through smaller-scale ventures.
